Vision Statement 2036

In 2036, equity replaces equality by recognizing and addressing the diverse landscapes we each inhabit. While equality involves everyone receiving the same pair of shoes, equity ensures that everyone gets the shoes they need to walk their unique path.

In this future there are no divides between craft and art, and all creative expressions are valued equally!

Scenario story

A day in the life in 2036, is a day without precarity, worry, stress, struggle, censorship, or the endless grind of grant applications. Instead, it's a day where individuals engage in activities they are passionate about, without the constant burden of survival.

In 2036, artists and cultural workers thrive in a world where communication is seamless, as everyone can express themselves in their native language, ensuring that every voice is heard and understood. Today, everyone benefits from stable income, which provides the financial security necessary to pursue creative passions without stress. Essential services, including mobility and healthcare, are universally accessible, enabling full participation regardless of location or health. Freed from the constant struggle for survival, individuals can immerse themselves in their work. The framework they operate within is built on simplicity and accessibility, with clear rules that everyone can understand and question, ensuring that participation is both inclusive and straightforward.

Strata - structures supporting this future

In this future there are no divides between craft and art, and all creative expressions are valued equally!

Grants function with a tenure model akin to academic positions, offering long-term support that allows artists to focus on their work without bureaucratic interruptions. Bureaucratic barriers that act as de facto censorship are dismantled, simplifying reporting requirements to ensure artists can express themselves freely. Support systems are robust, providing full-time salaries, free kindergarten, support for older individuals, a strong healthcare system, and a deep appreciation for knowledge.

Inspired by James Scott's "Weapons of the Weak," the sector today recognizes the power of small acts of resistance and non-compliance. Artists are encouraged to resist the pressures of perfection and systemic fixations, focusing instead on creating meaningful work within a system that values their contributions and provides the necessary resources. This new reality is marked by a commitment to simplicity, accessibility, and a supportive environment where the burdens of survival are lifted, allowing creativity to truly thrive.
